MACCOPS, now in its’ 8th year, is taking the bold step of positioning itself as a regional tradeshow for co-operatives.  Organised by ANGKASA the apex body for the co-operative movement in Malaysia is looking to see Malaysian co-operatives play a greater role in the ASEAN economic integration through linking co-operatives from the region with each other.

The 2017 MACCOPS edition will see co-operatives from various countries from Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa exhibiting products and services.  At the same time delegations from various countries from this regions will join the planned business matching and business forum sessions.

For the first time the ICA (full name of ICA) Global Conference and General Assembly which is expected to have 1,200 delegates representing co-operatives from around the global from the 15th to the 19th of November, 2017 alongside MACCOPS which will run from the 15th to the 19th of November, 2017 at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, Bandar Sunway.

Datuk Fattah, President of ANGKASA who is hosting both events stated that “Co-operatives need to play a more active role in the economy, especially when it comes to wealth creation.  Strengthening our domestic position is important and at the same time we need to look to international markets and international partner co-operatives to strengthen our revenue base.”

“Many co-operatives have been comfortable operating within Malaysia but the future is bigger than that, we need to see ASEAN as our domestic market especially as the AEC is becoming more important.  Malaysian co-operatives need to find strategic partners in the corporate sector that is why we have opened up this MACCOPS to include those in the corporate sector who currently or potentially want to leverage off the 8 million co-operative members in Malaysia.”

Trade visitors to MACCOPS can expect to meet decision makers from local and international co-operatives at the exhibition, business matching, seminars and forum components of the event will ensure access to industry experts.  Co-operatives will have dedicated C2C or Coop-2-Coop networking sessions.

The public visitors to MACCOPS can expect a real carnival atmosphere, a mixture of product demonstrations, food tasting, cultural shows and talks by experts will highlight some of the latest products being produced by co-operatives from around the world.  This component of the event is to show that co-operatives can provide products and services for consumers as they strive to live a sustainable modern lifestyle.

These two elements are combined in this year’s theme “Embrace the Difference”.
